Delightful, Idyllic Cottage, Crezieres, Deux
Sevres,
One Bedroom, Sleeps 2 People,
Swimming Pool Shared with Owners
Perfect for Couples

A delightful, idyllic holiday home for
couples or those on their own, enjoying the peace and quiet of the
countryside. The owners occupy the neighbouring property, separated by a
lane, who will be happy to help you to make the most of your stay. This
comfortable property makes an ideal base for couples wishing to avoid
the hustle and bustle of high season crowds and school holidays; it's
also a perfect choice for longer off season lets, perhaps for house
hunting.
The newly renovated, self contained open plan gîte at Ouismes,
comprises a large, comfortably furnished sitting room with a cosy wood
stove for the winter months. There is a fully equipped kitchen in the
corner with electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge. The open plan
staircase takes you up to a large double bed room with en suite shower
room and wc. There is a large window on the stairwell bringing plenty of
light and a small one overlooking the garden and valley below.
Outside there is a large terrace with table and chairs to enable
you to enjoy outside dining, and make use of the border of fresh herbs.
There are pretty flower beds, a lawn and an off-road private parking
space. The whole garden and terrace is enclosed by a fence. Guests are
invited to enjoy the owners’ ‘child free’ pool and terrace during the
day. Two bikes are also available. Depending on the season there is also
produce from the garden for sale.
The hamlet of Ouismes is situated in
the pretty village of Crézières, one of the smallest communes in France
with only 64 inhabitants. From the local goat farm you can buy goats
milk, honey and eggs, visit the goats and the rescued Poitevin donkeys.
It is a 10 minute drive (5km) to Chef Boutonne where there are 2
supermarkets, several restaurants and bars, banks and other small shops,
including 4 bakers who also deliver daily to the hamlet. The weekly
market is held on Saturday in the main square where you can also find
the tourist office. The source of the river Boutonne is found at a
traditional lavoir in the town and on the outskirts of the town is the
Château Javarzay, a beautiful little Chateau housing the Musée de La
Coiffe.
20 minutes away is Melle, home to the famous silver mines of the French
kings, a 6km nature walk with over 200 species of rare trees and 3
Romanesque churches, the most impressive of these being a Unesco World
Heritage Site.
The Poitou-Charentes region is steeped in history and tradition
and has a warm and exceptionally sunny climate. There are medieval
towns, Romanesque churches and cathedrals, ancient abbeys, châteaux,
museums, and art galleries.
The beautiful port of La Rochelle and the Atlantic coast are
approximately an hour’s drive away. There are superb beaches at La
Rochelle, Ile de Ré, Royan and Fouras where you can take a short ferry
trip to Ile d’Aix, a car-free island with a variety of excellent beaches
and restaurants. The area behind La Rochelle hides the beautiful Marais
Poitevin, which has a labyrinth of canals that can be explored by boat.
One hour to the south is the town of Cognac, home of brandy producers
such as Remy Martin and Hennessy, and Angoulême a beautiful hill top
city full of history and an annual comic strip festival. Poitiers with
its great range of shops and Futuroscope is an hour’s drive away to the
north. During the summer months there are various music and theatre
festivals all over the region.
Horse riding, golf, canoeing and kayaking (on the nearby river Charente)
are among many of the different sports available.
