A stunningly quiet country cottage with an above ground swimming
pool and English satellite TV, renovated in 2008. Built in stone with a
slate roof, it nestles in a very quiet country lane with stunning views
down the Vire Valley. Only 3.5km from the market town of Tessy Sur Vire,
and a short drive from the Normandy beaches, it is the perfect spot for
a family holiday.
The gite has one double bedroom, a twin room with bunk beds, and a large
family bedroom, with a double bed, and two single beds. Downstairs is a
large lounge with armchairs and sofas, where you can watch English
satellite TV, or listen to music on the CD player.
The kitchen dining room has a farmhouse dining table that sits 8, and
the newly fitted kitchen has all you need, even a dishwasher.
Outside is a garden and patio area, with an above ground pool, and a
range of tables and chairs. There is ample parking for two cars. A BBQ
is also provided.
The Old Creamery is close to the
market town of Tessy Sur Vire, which sits astride the River Vire. There
is a tow path to walk along to St lo in the north and Vire in the south,
and fishing permits are easy to purchase to enable you to enjoy the
excellent sport. At Pont Farcy ( 3km from the gite ) you can go on a
half or full day canoe trip down river, a great day out, in lovely
country side.
The bungee jump site of A J Hackett is only 10 minutes drive, with a
100km an hour zip line, and a family adventure course through the tree
tops, and the not to be missed devil carts! Very fast, and not just for
kids!
There are two local zoos well worth a visit, and of course you are only
a short drive from the not to be missed sites of Mont St Michel, and the
Bayeux tapestry, which tells the story of William the Conquerors
invasion of England in 1066, and the battle of Hastings.
The cottage is of course in the middle of the Normandy battlefields, and
indeed if you look at the back of the house you can see where a shell
blew a large hole in 1944. You can visit all the D Day Beaches, and the
various museums and monuments that can be found in each of the towns and
villages on your trip to the beaches.
If you have time left you should visit one of the many cider farms,
which are open to the public where the owners will encourage you to try
the cider, calvados, and other apple brews, or go on the Route De
Traditions, which takes you to local farms where they make bread, grow
snails and breed pigeons amongst others.
During your stay you should visit one of the local street markets, and
enjoy sausage and frites cooked outside and buy the best local produce,
perhaps a strong cheese or some sea food or veg.
Fishing trips can be arranged with bait and tackle available.
In the gite we have plenty of tourist information to plan your stay.
