Charming Bed and Breakfast
Accommodation
2 double rooms and a suite, sleeping up to 7.

"Flowerpots" Maison de
L'Oraille, has been open since
April 2009 for traditional Bed and Breakfast, Chambres d'Hôtes
accommodation, and is ideally situated in the heart of the picturesque
Normandy countryside. Believed to have been built around 1800, and the
original stone farmhouse of the Village of L'Oraille, Le Mesnil Garnier,
we are now delighted to offer a special kind of bed and breakfast
accommodation for up to 7 guests. There are 3 double bedrooms which have
been carefully furnished to ensure that your stay with us is as
comfortable, and memorable as possible.
Open all year round, we are available for holidays, as a base for
those weekend breaks, or simply as a stopover point as you continue to
explore Normandy.
We are just 7 kilometres from the famous copper town of Villedieu les
Poêles, and within easy access of the quiet west coast of the Normandy
peninsula and the Normandy Landing Beaches of the north and east coasts.
Half an hours drive will take you to the imposing town of Avranches with
its views of the enigmatic Mont St. Michel. 20 minutes from us is the
historic town of Coutances with its imposing Cathedral with twin spires
and superb shopping. Slightly further afield, and towards Caen is Bayeux,
with its historic tapestry...a must for any visitor to this area!
With an eye on the environment and resources, we have installed a multi
fuel wood burner to provide us with our central heating, and all our
wood is sourced from our local suppliers. Both internally and
externally, you will find that we have combined the old with the new, to
preserve and enhance our homes many original features.
Breakfast at "Flowerpots" Maison de L'Oraille is served in the
dining room in the main house. Old fashioned wooden flooring, and a wood
burner stove provide the ambiance for your breakfast. Enjoy a
continental feast of local produce, including a taste of our homemade
jams; strawberry, gooseberry, elderberry and plum for your baguettes and
croissants.
Our Accommodation
Chambre aux Papillions: Situated at the front of the house we
offer a bedroom that has 2 pine single beds.
Along the landing to:-
Chambre aux Fleurs: Facing fields, this bedroom has a pine double
bed. If required, there is sufficient space in this bedroom to enable us
to put in a travel cot.
Both bedrooms share the bathroom at the end of the landing.
The Barn Suite
Originally an open barn and hay loft, "The Barn Suite" has been
renovated to offer our guests a special kind of accommodation, combining
comfort and luxury with private accommodation that includes a lounge.
Access is either via the large French doors from the courtyard at the
front of the house or through the archway from the dining room of the
main house. Comfortable French sleigh sofas sit in front of a Franklin
style wood burner which supplements the central heating in the lounge on
cooler evenings. The bedroom has a spacious, part galleried landing with
a recessed loft and wooden floor throughout. The pine double bed faces
the French doors which lead onto the bedrooms balcony which overlooks
the main garden area. Situated on the balcony are 2 French cafe style
chairs and a small table for your use. There is an en-suite which
adjoins the bedroom, and separated by louvre doors. Here you will find a
large corner shower, wash hand basin with a small vanity unit and a
toilet.
Outside
Through the back door of the dining room, you will find our terraced
area with an original designed, purpose built barbecue, together with a
teak oval table, chairs and parasol for al fresco dining on those balmy
summer and autumn evenings! Or simply enjoy the seating area at the
bottom of the garden where you can sit and reflect on the events of the
day.
We have an established fruit, vegetable and herb plot which enables us
to be as self sufficient as possible. As part of the "Flowerpots"
experience, we invite our guests to sample the delights of our freshly
picked produce served at the evening table for dinner. We ensure that
all our vegetables and fruit are grown organically, and any surplus
produce goes directly to our chickens! We have been lucky enough to have
produced our own chicks this year, so eggs are plentiful!
