La Loge, La Turballe, Western Loire LA LOGE is a wood chalet set in its own acre of woodland garden and just a few kilometres out of La Turballe and Piriac-sur-Mer, two fishing villages on the Cote d’Amour peninsular at the outlet of the Loire. The nearest hamlet to us is Meliniac (unfortunately no shops!). The cabin has 3 bedrooms (1 queen-sized double, 2 twin), 2 bathrooms (1 bath, 1 shower) and an open plan kitchen, dining and seating area. Its rural location equidistant from La Turballe and Piriac make it secluded and quiet, but not isolated: it is opposite a farm and there are other properties along the lane, all in their own gardens. We are a seven minute drive from Piriac-sur-Mer and the many small beaches there (lots of rock pools), and the same distance from La Turballe, which has a very large, sandy beach. Both of these fishing villages are typically French, and have many restaurants, interesting shops and weekly markets. Chic La Baule – a favourite holiday destination for the Parisians - has the longest sandy beach in Europe. It is about 20 minutes away from us and there are plenty of designer shops, boutiques, restaurants, and cycle hire shops. Guerande is a medieval walled town about 7 kms from La Turballe, with again, many interesting little small shops and excellent places to eat. In all these places throughout the summer there are plenty of evening activities to entertain both you and the children – fire eaters, jugglers, marching bands … La Loge has a washing machine, microwave, large fridge/freezer, TV (for viewing our collection of old videos only – it cannot receive television programmes), radio/CD player, BBQ, and outdoor furniture. Unfortunately we cannot supply a landline telephone or internet. We do not supply bed linen or towels, but your rental includes all electricity, gas and water. Our agent, who lives in La Turballe and whose details will be supplied if you book with us, will provide you with the keys and escort you to the cabin on the first Saturday of your visit. She will do all that she can to make your stay at La Loge perfect.
What else? Les Marais Salants – the salt farms – between La Turballe and Guerande, are fascinating marshes where the salt farmers produce the famed Sel de Guerande. Visit the museum there and take a guided walk – good bird watching! Le Parc Naturel Regional de Briere is like a mini Norfolk Broads offering boat rides up and down the narrow waterways. These were used during the last war by the Resistance as a secret way to get to and from St Nazaire. Surfing and sailing schools are located on the beaches at La Turballe and La Baule. The whole area is ideal for cycling (there are good off-road cycle routes – one starts at the end of our lane), plus of course the golf at La Baule, tennis courts in La Turballe, mini-golf in La Baule and Piriac - and an Internet Café in Guerande! The first place you should visit, however, is the Information Centre on the seafront in La Turballe, near the port – here you will be overloaded with information on what to see and do during your stay.
