La Vieille Grange, Meuil, Salignac-Eyvigue, Dordogne
Renovated cottage, 2 bedrooms, sleeping 4 people plus cot.
Swimming Pool, 7.5m x 4.5m

Enjoy a peaceful self catering holiday in this idyllic, rural hamlet with spectacular views across the surrounding countryside. Relax on the balcony overlooking the valley, listening to the cicadas. The Dordogne is famous for its wonderful food and wine and the nearby town of Salignac (2 miles) has a good range of shops, a market selling local produce and several excellent restaurants.

The Dordogne river is a short drive away for both swimming and canoeing and so is the ancient walled city of Sarlat, famous for its stunning mediaeval architecture and vibrant street and theatre entertainment. At nearby Montignac you can visit the amazing prehistoric cave paintings of Lascaux. Much of the hundred year’s war was fought in the Dordogne and there is a wealth of mediaeval chateaux and fortified villages to visit. The wine growing areas of Bordeaux, Bergerac and Cahors are all within a pleasant drive, just waiting to be explored.

There is a swimming area in the Dordogne a short drive away. The current is slow but children would need close supervision. There are two safe water parks on lakes with sandy beaches within 20 minutes drive, and canoes are available for hire at a number of places.

Probably the most famous prehistoric cave paintings in the world are at Lascaux near Montignac, about 20 minutes drive away. Prehistoric man flourished in the area and left many fascinating artefacts that can be seem by the public today. The Jardins D’Eyrignac (about 10 minutes drive) are a great attraction, and the Jardins D’Imagination (about 30 minutes drive) have beautiful watergardens among other things. The Jardins de Cabillot (about 15 minutes drive) are landscaped in a more informal style.

Golf, Chateaux, festivals, wine tasting, history; whatever you enjoy you will find something for everyone in this region.
