LA RUE TRIVALLE          Carcassonne market

Carcassonne, (La Cité) Languedoc, South West France
Town House, 2 bedrooms, sleeps 4 people
Situated under the towering walls of the Cité Medievale
CLÉVACANCES 3 KEYS AWARDED

Located at the heart of the Toulouse-Montpellier-Barcelona triangle, at the crossroads of two major traffic roads dating back to the most ancient times, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, from the Cévennes to the Pyrénées mountain range where the Aude has its source, Carcassonne blooms in the plains of the lower valley, inviting you to walk in and out of its streets. Discover its history, its local cuisine, its wines, or simply enjoy the scenery.
From the Bastide Saint-Louis to the medieval Walled City, Carcassonne offers a wealth of monuments to visit and discover!
You can take a leisurely stroll along the streets and be charmed by the buildings and the people you'll meet along the way; or you can be accompanied by the interpretive guides from the Tourist Office, who are intent on restoring the memory of their city.

The Suburb Trivalle
The only pathway leading from the Bastide Saint-Louis to the City is the winding road, carved in stone improved by man, with a history of more than 2000 years: 'La Rue Trivalle'.
Since it was constructed, this artery has seen the changing of populations, a haven where Wisgoths, Romans, Saracens, Italians, Spaniards, and Spanish gypsies have crossed paths. It's most beautiful houses date from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, such as the Hotel Pelletier and the Maison Montmorrency. Behind each building, nestling in the heart of courtyards and gardens, are eighteenth century charterhouses. A popular quarter, artistic and charming, always ready to meet amongst friends, to finish with the song ' A quela Trivalla.'

This area of France provides a multitude of activities and places to visit. There are the historic towns of Toulouse, Beziers, Castelnaudry, Pezenas, Montpellier, Nimes, Narbonne plus the many medieval and hill top villages. The wine, fruit and many local festivals are waiting for you. In the winter, there is skiing in the Ariege and Pyrenees with the nearest ski resort about 1 ½ hours drive. Walking and climbing in the mountains, winter and summer, is an alternative. For those who like the sun, sand and sea, there are many resorts near Narbonne about 1 hours drive away.

La Rue Trivalle                    Comfortable living room

The house is centrally located within the medieval city (La Cité) area, just under the towering walls of the Cité Medievale (a World Heritage site). It is a typical French town house in a quiet street of terraced houses. The Bastide (later town) is only 12 minutes walk over the old bridge where there is a wealth of restaurants, shops and a market 3 times a week.

The house has tiled floors throughout and is furnished in French style. Electric convector heaters provide warmth in the cooler months. Parking is available 'on street' outside of the house, and there are cafes and restaurants just a short walk along the road. There is a telephone for incoming calls.

So that you will feel completely at home during your stay in Carcassonne, everything that you expect to find in your own home is provided. (Please let us know if we have missed anything!) Basics, like cooking salt and dried herbs, are provided so that you do not need to buy a packet / jar when you only need a pinch. You are welcome to help yourself to anything you need. All we ask is that you replace anything that you finish so that the next guests to occupy the house can enjoy the same amenities.

Well equipped kitchen                    Double bedroom

The living room has a HiFi system (radio, CD & tapes), DVD player & viewer, games and books. The living room leads into the dining room and kitchen, and from there, you have access to a large courtyard which is filled with small trees and plants, an outdoor grill, a sun canopy, table and chairs so that you can enjoy the ambience of outdoor dining 'al fresco' and sun loungers. A shower room, including a washing machine, with wash hand basin and toilet is on the ground floor and is accessed from the staircase area. The polished wooden staircase leads to two double bedrooms. The main bedroom overlooks the street and the room at the rear looks out onto the walls of the medieval city.
