Location: Casteljaloux
Bel Air is a detached villa style bungalow with its own private swimming
pool, owned by an English couple who take great care to maintain this
property to a standard that they feel is perfectly suited to a mainly
English clientele. Situated on the edge of the market town of
Casteljaloux, which is within walking distance, there are plenty of
attractions to this unspoilt area of SW France; ancient river towns,
rolling countryside and famous Gascon foods such as foie gras. The
region around Casteljaloux is rich in history and culture with Bastide
towns built and fortified by the English during the hundred years war.
Bel Air lies in a semi-rural location in the hamlet of Peyrama but is
only a short drive or a 20 minute walk to the centre of town.
Casteljaloux is in the Lot-et-Garonne department of South West France
and is dominated not surprisingly by the huge Lot and Garonne rivers.
There is plenty to offer all types of visitor and best of all is the
absence of crowds in the high season, unlike the Dordogne region to the
north.
Bergerac and Bordeaux airports each an hours drive away.
The accommodation is modern and well kept providing a straight forward
and homely environment. The property features a main lounge with log
burning fire, television with free to air English channels and French
doors that open out onto the terraces and private swimming pool, which
is fenced and gated to conform to safety standards. You can either
sunbathe around the pool, or sit at a table under the welcome shade of
a large tree.

The two bedrooms are large and bright and large windows offer a stunning
view over the pool area . The first bedroom features a king size pine
bed, and the second has two double beds and a small single bed. The
bathroom is at the end of the hall.
The kitchen is small but functional and has a French feel to it with its
open units. The owners have made sure you have all the features you
would expect such as kettle, toaster, oven, hob and fridge freezer. A
washing machine is also available.
Outside the property you will find plenty of parking and also the
gardens are surrounded by hedges and fencing and a large gate to the
entrance to ensure children's safety and your privacy. There is a BBQ
for your use.
There is a massive man made lake 2 miles away which offers safe sandy
beaches and bathing, with life guards in the high season , and also an
Aqua Park with slides and pedalos etc. Two restaurants are situated
around the lake and offer wide terraces with beautiful views over the 23
hectare lake and woodland walks. Opposite the lake is a British owned
18-hole golf course with its own club-house with bar and restaurant.
In the centre of town you can find an Olympic size swimming pool with
children's play areas and smaller pools . Also an excellent cafe and
restaurant are to be found within the complex.
Casteljaloux itself has numerous supermarkets and twice weekly markets
to provide you with plenty of fresh produce .There are also plenty of
restaurants right across the price range, from cheap decent cafe meals
to more gastronomic delights for which France is famous for.
You will never be far from the famous wine producing vineyards of this
area and naturally plenty of wine tasting opportunities. Festivals
featuring wine and music are popular in this area, and in the town of Duras not far away, they have a festival in August where you can
purchase a wine glass for 2 euros and then walk around the various
stalls sampling the produce freely.
Beach lovers should head for the Atlantic coast about 75 minutes away by
car, and the lively resorts of Mimizan and Biscarrose and Archachon
where you will find Europe's highest sand dunes.
The city of Bordeaux is less than an hour away and is perfect for
catching up with boutique shopping, eating out on the pavements or
walking around the 18th century old town of St Pierre and imagine its
maritime past.
