La Faviere, Bormes les Mimosas,
Var. La Faviere is an area of the parish of Bormes les Mimosas. This medieval village, about 2 miles back from the sea, is extremely picturesque, and worth a visit (or two). It has a market on Fridays. This area of France is midway between Toulon and St. Tropez, in an area of France of outstanding national beauty. It is slightly off the usual tourist route, because the motorway runs to the north of the Foret des Maures. This forest lies immediately to the north, and is the second largest natural original forest in France. The whole area is much less built up than the area around Nice and Cannes, and is a beautiful area where many French people go on holiday. You can certainly polish up your French here. Le Lavandou is the adjacent small town, two miles away, accessible by car, or by a cedar board walk, where you can walk immediately behind the beach, without getting sand in your shoes. Le Lavandou has a 'Pavilion bleu', a mark of clean beaches. It has at least six beautiful sandy beaches, and one naturist beach. All the beaches are clean, as is the sea. The area is said to have 300 days of sun per year. But note, it does rain occasionally, although this is usually short-lived. There are quite a few shops, and a market on Thursdays, where you can buy anything from olives to a painting.
This small apartment faces south, in La Faviere part of Bormes les Mimosas. The apartment is on the second floor of a three floor quiet block. There is a small entrance hall, one double bedroom, separate cabine containing bunk beds for children, lounge/dining area, with kitchenette. There is an electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave and electric water heating. There is a radio/CD/tape player, and a DVD player. There is a bathroom with shower. Double French doors lead to a balcony, with outside lighting, and table and four chairs. The apartment faces south, with trees, making it discreet, and there are views to distant hills. The apartment is quiet, yet superbly convenient. It is less than 400 metres from a clean sandy Mediterranean beach, safe for young children. It faces quiet maintained gardens, yet takes only 5 to 10 minutes walk to the beach, or to the centre of La Faviere, where there are many restaurants during the summer months. Several famous French artists eg. Cezanne, Renoir and Van Gogh all loved and painted this region. La Faviere has many good restaurants and there are others in Le Lavandou, 2 miles away along a boardwalk on the shoreline or by car. The Foret du Maures offers good walking, magnificent scenery, ancient monasteries and wonderful confiture de marrons [sweet chestnut puree]. You can try rock climbing near Marseilles and of course there are always bicycles to hire. Whatever your age this is a truly wonderful region of France to visit. |
