‘Les
Vergers’, Montignac, Dordogne ‘Les Vergers’ or ‘The Orchards’ is aptly named as the large grounds (over half an acre) accommodate a variety of fruit trees, including apples, pears and cherries. Two small vines also share the land which, although certainly not plentiful enough for the region’s wine industry, does allow a small taste of the fruit that is grown in such abundance throughout this famous wine making area. Montignac is a small hamlet just 4km (2.5 miles) to the north of the wonderful market town of Montpon Menesterol. The market town of Montpon, some 5 minutes drive has a range of shops, supermarkets, restaurants and has a weekly market where you can buy almost anything, but in particular the local wine producers sell their produce. The world famous wine centre of St. Emillion which is based around the charming medieval village with its origins dating back to the 8th Century is well worth a visit. The old quarter of Bordeaux is one of the largest protected architectural neighborhoods in all of France and is within easy reach of the cottage. Bergerac offers the visitor a host of speciality shops along its myriad of tiny streets. Or you can chose to find some of the local restaurants that serve some of the most amazing food at very reasonable prices, then come back to the house and relax.
