Maison de Cachette,
St. Géraud
de Corps, Dordogne St. Géraud de Corps is a charming village situated in the Dordogne region of South West France. It is here where you will find ‘La Maison de Cachette’, a delightful rural retreat for those seeking a relaxing and stress free holiday. The private house is located in this quiet hamlet and is just 6km to the south of the wonderful market town of Montpon Menesterol. As Montpon is just ten minutes down the lane, all the expected facilities of a small town are available almost upon your doorstep, but just far enough away to not detract from the peace and tranquillity of the countryside. And talking of countryside, it would be a very lucky person who has discovered anything better than this corner of France. With large forests and rolling meadows, steep cliff faces, with castles atop, rising from the valleys of powerful rivers, the Dordogne region is certainly one of the most beautiful places on earth, but still very much untouched by the hectic pace of modern life. You know you deserve the rest, so come and do it properly! Two bedrooms - One double bedroom (with en-suites) and one twin bedroom, which are both furnished with dressers, wardrobes and bedside cabinets. Two sofa beds in the lounge offer additional sleeping space. The large Salon de Jour / Dining area offers ample space for relaxing, with two sofas that convert easily into sofa beds, providing additional sleeping space. The lounge is equipped with satellite TV, showing the free to air channels, a video player and Hi-Fi. You are of course welcome to bring your own VHS tapes or CD's. There is a wood burning stove for those rare chilly evenings, although the cottage does have central heating. We also have installed a telephone at the cottage. The dining area comfortably seats eight, is available for when you prefer not to eat outdoors, which of course you may choose to do but you will soon find that the warm summer evenings are very conducive to eating Al Fresco The fully fitted kitchen is equipped with modern equipment including a dishwasher, washing machine, built-in double oven, fridge freezer, dual fuel hob and a microwave oven. A full range of crockery, cooking utensils, glassware and cutlery is provided There is a shower rooms with wc, another bathroom with bathtub and shower and a separate wc.
A mature conifer hedge
screens the private south facing terrace where you will find the fully
fenced pool which is 7.5m x 3.5m in size. The terrace has a full range of
patio furniture and, if like us, is where you will find the majority of
your time is spent! From the terrace there is a
path that leads to the garden and purpose built BBQ. This is a vine wood
burning BBQ and a superb selection of meats and fish, as well as
pre-prepared marinated BBQ meats are all available at the Intermarché in
Montpon. Incidentally, a good wine selection is also stocked there!
The number and quality of its golf courses, including the world renowned course at the Chateau des Vigiers, has made it France's leading region for golfers. A visit to anywhere inevitably inspires interest in its past and the Aquitaine region is no exception with an exceptionally colourful history awaiting the careful researcher. The abbeys, fortresses, and châteaux, as well as the remarkable prehistoric sites at Lascaux, La Madeleine and Rouffignac will enthral those interested in architecture and archaeology.
Despite the general assumption, but in fact definite misconception, held regarding the affinity the French have for the English, both countries are clearly linked throughout their histories. During the 12th century, Aquitaine was ruled over by Eleanor of Aquitaine. Married first to Louis VII of France, and later to Henry II of England, Eleanor bore ten children, including Richard the Lion-Heart. Romantics amongst you may be fascinated to learn that it was in Eleanor’s court that the concept of romantic love developed. Aquitaine is very much a gourmet’s paradise and such delicacies as Truffles and Foie Gras adorn even the simplest of menus. Traditional recipes, such as Coq-au-Vin are evident alongside the more exotically assembled recipes of the new cuisine. And to accompany your meal? Well you are in the right place as the Bordeaux vineyards, producing such notable wines such as Pauillac, Margaux, Medoc, Sauterne, and Saint-Emilion, are all on your doorstep. You will probably notice that it is easier to find a wine shop, or Cave, than it is to find a petrol station! |
