The accommodation offers, on one level, a unique arrangement for a large family or group to enjoy spacious comfort but with independent bathrooms and living space when required. Five double bedrooms, four bath or shower rooms (two en-suite). Two separated living areas with a fully equipped kitchen for serious cooking, two shaded terraces and a 11m X 5,5 m heated pool alongside. Decorated in the local style with massive oak beams, fully equipped and furnished for comfort all year round, the barn is surrounded by a garden and fields for children to explore. The views are of rolling farm-land and woods towards “le mur du Diable!”, an unusual rocky outcrop beside one of the many foot-paths. Deer and boar roam the area and you may catch a sighting over your morning croissant. Red squirrels may seek left-overs from your barbecued lunch whilst you doze.

The climate of the region is continental with the summer temperatures sometimes reaching 40 degrees – best to stay in the pool then!. There can be warm sunny days from March onwards and in to late October. Early May is particularly splendid when the trees are reaching full flower and leaf. In October, the deciduous forests turn to magnificent shades of gold. Winter arrives in December and whilst snow will not last for very long around The Barn, in the mountains it is metres thick and can stay for three or four months. Excellent winter sports can be had only about an hour away by car!

There are some very good places nearby to wine and dine inexpensively, and most shopping needs can be catered for in Montsalvy, about 4 kms away.
There are lots to see and do in the area. Apart from table-tennis and other games and exploring the woods for mushrooms and watching for wild-life, bicycles can be provided for you to follow the lanes and paths and get a real feel for the country-side. But you may have to use all eighteen gears and the feeling could be very real indeed if you are not used to this particular activity! Dare one mention horse-riding? The more adventurous may want to head for the volcanic mountains of the Cantal – about 1 hour away by car. The highest peak is over 6000 feet and the views over much of the Auvergne are superb. The landscape offers high level ridge walking at it’s finest. Maps and guide-books are provided. The owner will also act as guide, for free, provided there is a bottle of wine and some Cantal cheese in the lunch-pack!

Alternatively, do nothing but soak up the atmosphere. Be charmed by the warmth of the local hospitality – an Auvergnat tradition. This IS the perfect place to be, summer or winter so come soon! Before your arrival, the beds will be made up and the accommodation personally inspected by the owner. You can expect to be greeted with fresh flowers and a bottle of wine.
To roughly locate the property on the map, the area is the Department of Cantal situated on the same latitude as Bordeaux and mid-way between Toulouse to the south-west and Lyon to the north-east. The nearest large town is Aurillac - 35 kms north.
