La Grange, Poulmarvezen, nr.
Ploerdut, Brittany.
Barn conversion, 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6.
The barn is south facing
and has fantastic views of the open countryside. Poulmarvezen is at
the end of a very pretty lane, there is no passing traffic, and so it is
very quiet and tranquil. The villages of Ploerdut and Lignol are a
thirty-minute walk away and offer restaurants, bars and boulangeries. The
bar Chez Marie Thé in Ploerdut serves a delicious four-course meal with
unlimited wine for an incredible 8 euros. Guemène-sur-Scorff is five
minutes away by car and offers supermarkets, various types of shops and
banks.
The larger towns of Vannes, Quimperle, Quimper and Auray all offer
interesting day trips. Each of these towns has retained part of its
medieval past and the architecture takes the traveller several centuries
back. The roads in this part of Brittany are very quiet even in the
summer, and it is possible to drive several kilometres without seeing
another vehicle.

The Quiberon peninsula is about an hours car journey and also has
golden sand beaches and blue waters, the peninsula is very thin so you can
see the sea on either side when standing in the middle, in the summer a
train service runs up and down. The strong winds coming in from the sea
make this an excellent place for windsurfing and many other water sports.
Larmor- Plage is located on the south coast and is about a 40 min car
journey. The sea front has many restaurants, bars and cafes. There are
long beaches with golden sands and clear blue waters, which make it an
excellent place to go for all the family.
The lake at Guerledan is 20 kilometres north with small beaches and
activities for the whole family including sailboats, pedal-boats, dinghies
and water-skiing. There are many markets to visit selling delicious fresh
vegetables and fruits with wonderful cheese stalls, local bread and much
more.

The Barn: which was completed last year, forms part of an ancient
longere. It has been tastefully renovated and is best described as being
very chic. There is a large open plan lounge with dining area and fully
fitted kitchen, tiled throughout with beautiful antiqued terracotta tiles,
which contrast with the stunning white walls and limed boarded ceilings.
All the furnishings are of the best quality.
In the lounge area there are comfortable sofas and pieces of Victorian
pine furniture. The kitchen area is very smart with limed wood doors.
There is a double bedroom downstairs with en-suite shower room with W.C.
and basin. Upstairs, under a mansard shaped ceiling, again with limed
boarded ceilings and some exposed chestnut roof timbers, there is a
spacious bedroom with king sized bed, another bedroom with twin-beds and a
shower room with W.C. and washbasin.
Outside: there is a private garden with garden furniture and
barbecue, and a woodland walk leading to a stream and picnic area You can
also enjoy the very large, open field, which is very popular with children
for playing football etc. A favourite pastime in the evenings is to sit
with a glass of wine and watch the swallows swoop and dive.
