Bastide de L'Estré, Aups, Provençe Located in a small valley, this XV11th farmhouse is surrounded by olive trees, meadows and Mediterranean forest, just 3 kms. from the the village of Aups. This is a place of tranquility and peace, where little has changed through the years; where you can listen to the song birds whilst enjoying your breakfast in the shade of the pomegranate trees. Aups is approached by way of a quiet country lane passing through the olive groves, and you can purchase the famous truffles and olive oil from the Thursday market held from November to February, or there is a traditional Provençal market held twice weekly throughout the year. The property is well positioned for enjoying the more leisurely pastimes of exploring the intricate network of footpaths scattered across the valley, from which the views are breathtaking, either walking, by mountain bike or horse back. The whole of the Haut Var offers a multitude of outdoor activities for your enjoyment, amidst the space and silence of the rolling hills and valleys of which the area boasts. The property is just 25 minutes from the Verdon Gorges, well worth a visit, and 15 minutes from the lake of Sainte-Croix, where you will find many water based activities. The Mediterranean sea is 60 kms, and the Alps are 80 kms. Learn the art of basket making in the nearby village of Moissac, or enjoy a Provençal or vegetarian cookery class in the large kitchen of the main farmhouse; both of these and many other projects, can be planned to suit your own schedule. The Cottage: is part of the original building, and used to be the living quarters on the farm. It has retained it's original Provençal farmhouse features, with low doors, small windows, double shutters and tiled floors. It has a fully equipped kitchen with fireplace, full size oven, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and microwave, and of course a full set of utensils. There is also a little cellar adjoining............... On the first floor is a double bedroom, with a lounge area, and on the half landing is a family bathroom with an angle tub, two showers, (one adult and one child), 2 adult basins and one child's basin, a washing machine, an iron/ironing board, and separate toilets. There is a further loft bedroom with a double bed and two single beds.
Bed and Breakfast: in the main farmhouse, with a truly homely atmosphere; the building has been respectfully renovated with attention paid to it's history and the traces of rural life can be found all around. There are three en-suite bedrooms, all with towels and fridge. Prices include a generous breakfast, which is served at your convenience, and in warmer months you can partake on the terrace or in the shade of the trees. In cooler weather, the fireside is the preferred place. Picnics can be provided, and evening meal on request, with most of the ingredients being produced from the garden, or which are freely available in the natural environment of the surrounding hills. The master bedroom is spacious with a double
bed and three singles, bathroom, separate toilets, a comfortable sitting area, fridge and
a coffee machine. Hikers Dormitory: available in the warmer months, provided you bring your own sleeping bag! It has a bathroom and fridge, and a bicycle shed is also available. Stalls and hay are available for horses. |
