We have two houses in over an acre of land surrounded by attractive pine forests. The larger house is a converted 'resinier's' cottage with three/ four bedrooms and a good sized swimming pool. The second house is new and has three bedrooms. Both properties are situated in a small hamlet called St Helene de L'Etang about 5 kilometers from Carcans in the Gironde area of France. The houses are close to the largest freshwater lakes in France and the surfing beaches of the Atlantic. Also close by are the wine regions of the Medoc.
The tiny hamlet of St Helene de L'Etang consists of nine houses including ours which is at the end of the road opposite a small farm which has camping facilities in the summer. Beyond our houses, the road becomes a sandy track leading to the Lac du Hourtin-Carcans, the largest freshwater lake in France. The lake is twenty minutes by foot or ten minutes by bike. Very little traffic passes our house making it ideal for children. Wildlife abounds including frogs, toads, rabbits, deer, lizards and a wide range of birds.
Carcans has the essential supermarket but also the traditional French shops and local market. The 'cave' is well stocked with Bordeaux wine and there is a very good baker, butcher and fishmonger. Maubuisson is ten minutes' drive away and there you will find sandy beaches, cafes restaurants, sailing, windsurfing and save swimming. Ten minutes' beyond Maubuisson is the Atlantic Ocean, with miles of unspoilt beaches and breakers for surfing and invigorating swimming. There is golf, cycling and horse riding within easy driving distance.

Chez Resinier: The cottage itself has three double bedrooms. The large master bedroom has a super king-size bed and an en-suite shower room. A second bedroom contains twin beds and a third bedroom has two sets of adult sized bunk beds. There is also a separate bathroom containing a bath, shower and loo. Attached to the house by a gazebo is an extension with an additional room. It contains bunk beds and a sink and would be suitable for older children.
There is a large Salle de Sejour, with open fireplace, and an integrated kitchen, which is fully equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, two fridges, freezer, electric cooker, microwave and coffee machine.
Facilities in the garden include a good sized swimming pool and portable barbeque together with extensive patios around the house (well stocked with garden furniture) - ideal for long lazy lunches and dinners.

Chez St. George: The house is centrally heated and has three double bedrooms. The master bedroom has a double bed and en-suite shower room. A second bedroom contains twin beds and the third bedroom has two sets of bunk beds. There is a large, well furnished salle de sejour, with sofa bed, comfy chairs and two sets of French windows, opening onto the patio, which make it a very light and attractive room. The luxury kitchen is open plan and fully equipped with a dishwasher, washing machine, gas/electric hob and a fridge/freezer.
Most of the rooms have French doors opening onto the patio and garden. The patio itself is well stocked with sun loungers and other garden furniture, and a portable barbecue.
