The Property:

Le Moulin (formerly a water-mill, now the owner's home) is on the edge of La Digne d'Amont, a small village 27 km south of Carcassonne and 4 km west of Limoux. It stands in about 2 hectares of land with views of vineyards and gentle wooded hillsides. The two gites have been converted from old farm buildings belonging to Le Moulin. They stand independently and do not overlook each other. There is also an additional en-suite bedroom that can be used with either gite. The large garden has a barbecue and sun-loungers. Beside the garden is a pond (fenced off) with the owner's ducks and geese, and a field with her four friendly sheep. There are five bicycles for exploring the quiet roads around Le Moulin.

Le Moulin 1 is ideal for a couple (or a couple with a child). It has a double bedroom with built in cupboards; a living room with sofa-bed (suitable for a child or adult), dining table, chest of drawers, TV, radio, CD player, games, a small library; a well-equipped kitchen area with hob, fridge-freezer and microwave; a shower room with toilet. It is at first floor level. By the entrance door is a small terrace with a table and two chairs. At the foot of the short outside staircase that leads up to the gite there is a larger terrace with a garden table and four chairs.
 

Le Moulin 2 has two bedrooms, each with its own toilet and shower. Entrance is from the garden across a sunny terrace, then onto a large shaded terrace. Double doors lead inside to the living and kitchen areas. The kitchen is well equipped with hob, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and microwave. An attractive feature is the mezzanine balcony in the living area, with a sofa, TV, radio, CD player, games and a small library. The 2 en-suite bedrooms are on a lower floor. The larger has a queen size bed. The smaller has two single beds.

The additional en-suite bedroom is large with two single beds and its own outside door. In a small building between the two gites, it can be rented for use with either gite.

The Area:
Limoux, 4 km away, is on the River Aude. It has a very pleasant atmosphere, with attractive old quarters and a central square with restaurants, cafes and a weekly market. Top of your list of places to visit will probably be the fortified medieval city of Carcassonne, but there are many equally interesting - and less touristy - places to visit: magnificent Cathar castles, the mysterious Rennes-le-Chateau, 'circulade' medieval villages, the Pyrenees and Andorra, Toulouse, Perpignan and the Mediterranean coast. It is a wonderful area for walking and cycling on the quiet country paths and roads. There is swimming in the Mediterranean and in lakes and rivers; kayaking, canyoning, cave exploration; and of course wine tasting in the numerous wine cellars.
