Les Granges, is a converted farmhouse, deep in the countryside and standing in 6 acres of meadow and woodland, with its own swimming pool. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen and sitting room with large stone fireplace, dining room, playroom with ping-pong table, BBQ and a large terrace for outside dining. There is a washing machine, dishwasher, gas cooker and refrigerator  with plenty of crockery and utensils for 9 or more. The swimming pool is 8¼ mtrs by 4 mtrs and is close to the house.

The farmhouse is on a lane leading to the ruined castle of Commarque. It is in the heart of the Perigord Noir, which is famous for three things:

Its castles: there are some 1400 places officially 'classàs monuments', including the whole of the old part of the city of Sarlat, 8 miles away.

Its caves: Les Eyzies describes itself as the capital of pre-history, and within 10 miles of Les Granges are the type-sites La Madeleine, Cro- Magnon and Le Moustier. The virtually unique carved horses of Cap Blanc are within walking distance.

Its cuisine: In the Dordogne, though no longer true of France generally, you will normally find first class food in even the smallest restaurant. We have 2 good restaurants in the village of Marquay, 2½ miles away, and they are numerous in Les Eyzies and Sarlat.

There are excellent walks in all directions, and canoes can be hired on the Vézère and Dordogne rivers. Sarlat has a theatrical festival every July and August.
