There is so much to see and do in Calvados its hard to know where to
start.
We are only a short drive from the D Day beaches, and all its historic
sites and museums. On your drive to the beaches, each small village and
town has its own story to tell of its liberation, and indeed our own
village has a small museum that is well worth a visit.
The beaches themselves are now beautiful soft sand, and on a sunny
summer day packed with families enjoying the shallow water and warm
sand.
Inland there are plenty of family days out, from visits to the local
cider makers, to canoeing on the River Vire, a great family day out, or
horse riding, golf or for the braver, the activity centre at the viaduct
only 5 miles from us where you can bungee jump, or try other extreme
sports. This is worth a visit if only to watch the brave leaping from
the old viaduct into the river below.
The gite is not far from the major town of St Lo, and local shops are a
mile away where you can buy bread and general provisions, or visit a
bar. it’s a short down hill walk, but a longer one up hill on the return
home!!
In the gite we have lots of information on places to visit and where to
eat, and as we live close by you are welcome to ask for help and advice.
