Le Fresne, Near Ducey, Normandy
Beautifully Restored House,
6 Bedrooms, Sleeping 14 People
Solar Heated Swimming Pool
Le Fresne is the perfect place to organise a family holiday or to relax
with a group of friends. This beautiful 6 bedroomed house was built in
1666, and was a total ruin when purchased. It has been lovingly restored
to preserve its many period features and we are now able to offer a
house with masses of character and charm, incorporating all modern
comforts.
In a peaceful farming hamlet between Avranches and St Hilaire du
Harcouet, Le Fresne offers peace and tranquillity yet is only a short
drive to a bustling town or the coast. We are only 2 miles from the
beautiful protected Selune Valley where a dam has created the lake of
Vezins, offering boating, fishing and many scenic walks. The countryside
is pleasingly rural and unspoilt and there are good seaside facilities
within easy reach.
The private solar heated swimming pool 8m x 4m is surrounded by a decked
sunbathing terrace and is overlooked by a covered veranda which is ideal
for outdoor dining. The pool is securely fenced with access from the
veranda and garden by lockable gates. The garden is mainly laid to lawn
and orchard with plenty of space for children to play. There is ample
garden furniture and a large brick built barbeque. Within the grounds is
a games room with a full size pool table.
THE HOUSE:
Kitchen: The kitchen/dining area has been carefully designed to be
open plan and sociable. The farmhouse dining table seats up to 14 people
and we have a high chair for babies. There is also a breakfast bar for
quick snacks or to gather around for aperitifs. We love to cook and
appreciate how important it is to have the right equipment. Our kitchen
is a real home from home with lots of preparation and storage space.
Equipped with two fridges, dishwasher, hob and oven, microwave, coffee
machine, toaster and much much more.
Terrace: Sheltered and secluded at the rear of the house, the covered
terrace overlooks the pool and is ideal for outdoor dining.
Lounge: We have a large comfortable lounge with 3 sofas, the perfect
place to relax and chill out. Large original fireplace housing a log
burner. The television has English channels and there is also a
DVD/video with films for all ages. We also have plenty of games and

LOCAL INFORMATION
Within easy reach: Ducey: - 7 km away is our nearest town. It is host to
the historical Montgommery Chateau which is often open to the public for
exhibitions and tours. During the summer months the grounds are
surrounded by magnificent floral displays. The staff of the Tourist
information Office which is located opposite the chateau are extremely
helpful in providing information about this and other attractions both
in and around Ducey. A small supermarket is to be found here, as is a
bank, two dispensing Chemists, a pizzeria, a creperie, two bars, an
excellent restaurant specialising (not exclusively) in seafood,
butchers, tabacs and of course boulangeries! An English speaking Doctor
is also based in a surgery in Ducey. Market day is Tuesday.
Avranches: - Just a short drive away Avranches has some wonderful
streets for shopping, garden admirers and historians alike. From The
Jardin des Plantes is a fantastic view across the bay of le Mont St
Michel.
St James: - Home to the American World War 2 Cemetery.
St.Hilaire Du Harcouet : - to be found 9km away. Whilst a lot larger
than Ducey it has certainly not lost its charm. With numerous bars and
restaurants, the pavement culture is much in evidence. The local
Wednesday market here is the biggest weekly agricultural market in
Normandy. More information here.
Villedieu-Les-Poeles: - renowned for its copper workshops and museums.
It is also home to the Zoo de Champrepus.
Mont-St-Michel: - Just 20 minutes (22Km) away by car, the island
monastery is today the second most visited tourist attraction in France
(after the Eiffel Tower) - and is a truly spectacular site located just
off the coast of Brittany and approached by a causeway. It is delightful
at any time, but particularly enchanting at night. Whilst it is quite a
climb to the top the views over the bay are spectacular! The renowned
omelette restaurant La Mere Poulard is housed on the island - where it
is possible to watch the chefs preparing their world-famous dishes
traditionally in large copper pans over open wood fires.
The Bay Of Mont St Michel: - has many beaches and sights typical of the
Normandy region. A little further west brings you to the edge of
Brittany and the beautiful seaside town of Cancale celebrated for its
oyster farms. The coast road continues past some glorious beaches to the
magnificent walled city of St Malo with its abundant shops and seafood
restaurants.
The Normandy Landing Beaches: - have long been a popular choice for
those interested in the Allied Forces’ invasion of France in 1944. The
dramatic setting for the landing of 4266 craft and hundreds of warships
and naval escorts, includes a wealth of museums, German battery
positions and artificial ports.
Change over day is Saturday, check in from 4pm depart at 10am as it is a
large house
and we need the time to clean to the highest of standards.
