The farmhouse enjoys beautiful views across the lake, and is situated in
the peaceful setting of St-Sever Forest. It is an excellent area for
walking and cycling, and golf, fishing, horse riding and water sports are
available locally.
There are several good restaurants close by. L'Auberge St Germain de
Tallevende (15 minutes), offers excellent value dining using local
produce. Le Manoir de l'Acherie St Cecile, set in its own beautiful
grounds in the countryside on the outskirts of Villedieu des Poeles,
this hostelry and restaurant offers gastronomic delights in traditional
splendour. Offering a fixed price local/tourist menu, a la carte and up
to 7 course gourmet extravaganzas. Le Moulin de Jean at Cuves (15
minutes), where you will find magnificent food coupled with superb
ambience; a converted watermill, illuminated at night.
Horse racing and trotting, at Vire, has turf for flat and hurdle, and
sand courses for trotting. Simple but enjoyable fixed price lunch
available in upstairs restaurant overlooking the track with Tote/Parimutuel
betting booths.
Mont St Michel-this UNESCO World Heritage site is a "must do" when in
the area - it's about 45 minutes drive from La Forge.
There are plenty of markets and lots of shopping, and the lively
Saturday market at St Sever is in the main square, offering
local fresh produce, meats, cheeses, fish etc and serves delicious
sausage baguettes and crepes. Even freshly cooked bbq chicken and meat
to take away. Drop in to the local hostelry and have a coffee and
Calvados or Cognac with the locals. The establishment is now English
run.
The Farmhouse: Is very large - over 4000 square feet, part dating back to
18th Century and recently renovated, peacefully located in idyllic
setting in the Saint Sever forest and on the edge of a lake (which is a
protected Bird Sanctuary where many species can be spotted). It enjoys
magnificent views of the lake, and stands in its own grounds of about
three acres, of which one acre is an informal garden, with a spring
water fed pond.
The original building has been sympathetically restored and modernised,
the ground floor stables have been converted to bedrooms and the
enormous first floor "grenier" - hay loft - 75 feet x 24 into a "leisure
room" with pinball machines, juke box, table tennis table, dance/disco
floor with lighting, 42 inch LCD TV with free to air Satellite and
surround sound, DVD player, VHS player and a Wood burning stove. There
is an outdoor roof deck 24 x 20 feet looking out over the lake.
There are four bedrooms in total, three of which are on the ground
floor; one of the ground floor bedrooms is en -suite, and there is a
second family bathroom. Upstairs is a further master suite with
bathroom. Also on the ground floor you will find
the dining room, 17 feet x 16, with quarry stone tiled floor, Original
granite fireplace and a wood burning stove. There is a carved oak dining
table set for 10, 22 inch TV, a music Centre and CD player.
The kitchen is 13 feet x 12 and has a breakfast bar, fully fitted
bleached oak units, electric hob/oven/extractor microwave, dishwasher
and fridge / freezer. The utility room houses the washing machine, a
separate spin dryer and a W.C.
Outside, the farmhouse stands in grounds of 3 acres, with a heated
plunge pool, patio and barbecue. There is a roof terrace/deck
overlooking the lake, where many species of birds may be spotted.
