Logis de la Croix, Gibourne,
Charente Maritime
4 Gites, (Ground floor bedrooms) 2, 3 and 4
bedrooms, sleeping up to 27 people in total.
2 swimming pools and children's play area.
Logis de la Croix,
is in a traditional French village, surrounded by miles of open farmland,
and is approached down a long driveway. It offers peace and seclusion in
the rolling French countryside. Originally an 18th century farmhouse and
stone barns, it has been tastefully renovated into a collection of four
individual gites along side the owners properties.
All of the gites look onto the 2 heated swimming pools, the large main
pool is 15m long, the smaller toddler pool is a safe 40 cm deep, and the
pool area is fenced for safety. Beyond this is an acre of garden with
swings, slide and a climbing frame for the kids all surrounded by miles
of open farmland that forms the Gibourne valley. They each have
their own secure parking.
There are a wealth of interests and activities, to suit all tastes,
including parks and boating for the family, local markets, chateaux,
Futuroscope at Poiters, an excellent zoo near Royan, go-karting at St.
Jean D’Angely, and picnicking and cycling in Aulnay forest. Or visit the
wine cellars of Cognac, with a trip along the river, the Aquarium at La
Rochelle, the fortified seaside of Fouras and the beaches at
Chatelaillon, La Rochelle and the off shore islands of Ille de Ré and
Ille D’Oleron, or why not take a pony and trap ride around the town of
Rochefort with its historic navel background?
There is an abundance of Romanesque churches and architecture in the area,
and at Saintes, which was the Gallo-Roman capital of the Aquitaine for a
century, there is the Amphitheatre.
The pretty town of Matha is only a 10-minute drive away through the open
country side, where there are three supermarkets, banks, a pizza
restaurant, bars, an open air swimming pool and tennis courts, and of
course, some typical French shops.
Just 20 minutes drive to the West is the ancient town of St Jean D’Angely
with its narrow streets and weekly markets, and to the South, Cognac and
the city of Saintes are both about a 30-minute drive. The coastline of
the Charente-Maritime is ideal for lazy days at the beach.
The Gites: All of the gites have been designed to ensure a
comfortable holiday. They are fully equipped with modern fitted kitchens
with dishwashers, washing machines, microwaves and gas cookers. They are
comfortably furnished, all having a TV and video. At the rear of all of
the gites, French doors open from the living rooms onto individual tiled
patios with space to relax and eat, with tables, chairs and loungers,
plus the convenience of gas bbq's.
