Delightful cottages in lovely countryside near Aubeterre and Ribérac on the Charente-Dordogne border. Each gîte has its own charm, preserving its old world character, with exposed beams, stone walls and a sunny, pastel decor throughout, as well as providing modern standards of comfort.  The scenery around Chez Daviaud is idyllic, with rolllng hills, woods and meadows, dotted with picturesque hamlets.  Within minutes are lovely waymarked walks and cycle paths, fishing, river bathing, tennis courts, golf, horseriding, canoeing and kayaking.  The nearest villages of St Séverin (6km) and Montmoreau (7km) provide all local shops and services.  Weekly markets are in Chalais (15 mins) and Ribérac (20 mins).

Approached by a country lane, a colourful floral courtyard garden welcomes you.  To the rear of the cottages the patios overlook an extensive, enclosed lawn with  boules court, children’s playground equipment and sandpit.  Mountain bike hire.

The superb pool complex comprises a 12+m pool, which ranges in depth from 0.30m to 2.50m, including a “wallowing” area and a separate children's splash pool.  A large shaded verandah offers protection from the sun. 

Each gîte is equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, large fridge, gas cooker, microwave and barbecue.  Woodburning stoves provide heating.  There are toys, books, videos and games for all ages.  Cots, highchairs and other baby equipment available at no extra cost.

Le Châtaignier: (sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms) has a large, modern, fitted dining kitchen, comfortable living room.  Oak stairs lead to 2 twin bedrooms (1 with bunks) and a double bedroom.  The bathroom has a bath/shower, washbasin and WC. 

La Vieille Forge: (sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms) has an entrance hall, an oak floored living room with original fireplace, charming dining kitchen with access to the rear patio, shower room with WC, wash basin.  An oak staircase leads to the first floor where there are 2 double bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms, bathroom with bath, washbasin and WC.

Les Ecuries: (sleeps 8 in 5 bedrooms) has a comfortable living room, a dining kitchen with access to the rear patio. Bathroom with bath, shower, wash basin and WC.  On the first floor where there are 2 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom and 2 singles, bathroom with shower, washbasin and WC.

La Grange: (sleeps 12 in 6 bedrooms) The ground floor has a large living room with  a garden door leading to the patio, kitchen/dining area, twin bedroom, bathroom with bath, shower, wash basin and WC.  An oak staircase leads to the first floor where there are 2 double bedrooms, 3 twin bedrooms,  two of the bedrooms sharing a  balcony overlooking the rear garden, bathroom with shower, washbasin and WC.

Surrounding Area: Chez Daviaud is a superb base for visiting both the Poitou-Charentes region and the Dordogne.

Aubeterre sur Dronne, just 7 km away is perched on a rocky crag above the river Dronne; this is one of the 100 prettiest villages in France.  45 km east along the Dronne lies the beautiful town of Brantôme, dominated by the impressive Benedictine abbey.  The caverns at Villars, with their amazing geological formations are just a short drive from Brantôme.

Périgueux, the capital of the Dordogne (50km) has colourful markets, shops and street entertainment.  Slightly further south you will find many other attractions of the Dordogne, including châteaux, caverns and enchanting villages.

The Charente is most appreciated for its rural scenery, pretty limestone villages, each with its Romanesque church and its peaceful way of life.  However the fascinating towns of Angoulême and Cognac are not to be missed. To the southwest lies St. Émilion and its vineyards (40 mins away from Chez Daviaud), classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The closest beaches can be found at Meschers, south of Royan, just 90 km from Chez Daviaud.   Alternatively, the wide, extensive sandy Atlantic beaches along the Bordeaux coastline are within reach.
