Champ
Vieil Standing in its own undulating
farmland in the Lot region of south west France,
Champ
Vieil consists of a courtyard of buildings formed by the house, barn and
farm buildings - all built in local stone. It has been beautifully
restored by a team of skilled carpenters and
masons into a property that is ideal for two families.
It overlooks its own fields and extensive woodland beyond. The
home retains many original features, such as the wine cave which is still
used for making wine from the adjoining vineyard.
From
the terrace and pool the grass meadow, surrounded by walnut trees, slopes
gently away to the woodland and further vineyards. A track to the side of
the house continues on through the woods and fields eventually coming out
at the quaint village of Les Arques. Champ Vieil is ideal
for children of all ages. Outside there is a large shaded sandpit and a
swing for younger children, and the terraced swimming pool, measuring 9m x
4.5 m, is fully fenced off for safety and from the pool you look west down
the meadow to the woodland beyond. Although the pool is not heated it is
adequately warm during the main summer months. The pool is generally
opened in May and closed in October although please check for any
adjustments when booking.
Cazals is three miles
away and has a well-stocked supermarket, charcuterie, post office,
restaurants and lots more and a market every Sunday. At the lake there is
play equipment and tennis courts. Canoeing on the Lot, horse-riding and
bike hire is available nearby. On
the ground floor, the large
oak beamed kitchen (20' X 18') has
an enormous table with benches seating 14 people. It is equipped with gas
cooker, fridge, dishwasher and microwave. French doors (south and west)
open on to terraces and garden (with loungers, table, parasol etc.) This
is the heart of the house around which everything else revolves. First
floor
where
you will find the large summer sejour above the kitchen. Children
often sneak up here when it's too hot outside - the wooden varnished floor
makes a good play area. (One end of this room is muslin screened with a
double bed should this be required.)
Bedroom 1 has a double
bed, bedroom
2, accessed
from the main bedroom, has bunk beds, bedroom
3 is a twin-bedded room overlooking the meadow. The bathroom on this floor
has
a bath with shower over, wc and hand washbasin, shaver point and wall
heater. Second Floor: the staircase from the winter sejour splits the two further bedrooms and bathroom. One of these has the option of having either one wide and long super-king sized bed or two singles, and the other has three single beds. The bathroom on this floor has a shower and separate hip bath, wc, hand washbasin, shaver point and wall heater. |
