Sleeps 10

The Apple Orchard is a
unique Provençal villa, set independently within its own mature
lawned garden with large swimming pool, just outside the small local
village of Le Thor, amongst peaceful countryside in the valley of the
River Sorgues, only twenty minutes from the city of Avignon.
Situated in the heart of Provence, giving you all the ambiance of local
village life, with morning markets for fresh produce, cafes,
restaurants, bakeries, delicatessen's, caves for wine tasting, antique
brocantes, potteries and many other interesting shops. Surrounded by the
mountains of Mount Ventoux, the Dentelles, the Luberon and les Alpilles
there are many interesting places to go and a variety of sporting
activities to do. Or you can simply relax in the garden, under the shade
of a tree, sampling the local wines, and watching the olives grow! The
coast and its beaches are accessible within 1 to 2 hours, with the
larger festival towns of Avignon and Carpentras within half an hour and
airports all within an hour's drive. Much consideration has been taken
to make The Apple Orchard something special, utilising its extraordinary
design of high beamed ceilings, outside terraces and sheer sense of size
to maximum effect. With 5 double bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, the
accommodation caters perfectly for large parties, families and friends
sharing.
The house is situated in the countryside, surrounded by fruit
orchards and sunflower fields and so is very quiet and peaceful. The
meandering river Sorgue provides the opportunity to fish, canoe, and
enjoy local walks. Along with cycling and horse riding, there are also
tennis courts just outside the village. Fontaine-de-Vaucluse and L'Isle
sur-la-Sorgue, with it's famous antiques markets and river cafes, is
only ten minutes away. The city of Avignon is 20 minutes by car, as are
the towns of St-Rémy and Carpentras, with their Romanesque landmarks and
Provençal markets. Visiting the picturesque hillside towns of Gordes and
Roussillon in the Luberon make for a perfect day's outing. And then
there's the Roman attraction of Pont du Gard, the inspiring Canyon du
Verdon and the coast's beaches and water sports all within a one to two
hour drive.
Approached via a downstairs hallway, a sweeping staircase leads
you up to an impressive open-plan living space incorporating lounge,
kitchen and dining area. With its high beamed ceilings, limestone
floors, huge traditional central fireplace and double french doors, the
room extends out onto a balcony terrace overlooking the extensive,
mature gardens and pool area. This terrace has a large table that seats
ten and its own BBQ. Sofas are set amongst coffee tables, chests and
bookshelves with a library of useful guidebooks and information. A large
cabinet houses the TV with Sky Digital and DVD player. There is also a
WiFi setup for the use of your own personal laptop. The kitchen is light
and spacious, with a door leading directly to the outdoor eating
terrace. Modern appliances, including hob, oven and microwave, granite
work surfaces and an additional bar with stools completes this kitchen
with a stylish finish. There is also an indoor dining table and chairs,
seating 12 and a utility room with washing machine.
Bedrooms:
A spacious, light bedroom with wooden floors and fitted wardrobes,
leads directly into a large en-suite bathroom with W.C. walk-in power
shower, and ornate Victorian bath. There is a separate W.C. and two
further bedrooms upstairs (one twin and one double) both with wooden
floors and large windows looking out on to the garden. Both bedrooms
have doors leading to the same en-suite bathroom between them, with two
sinks and large power shower. Leading off from the main hallway are the
ground floor bedrooms, both with beautiful French doors leading directly
out on to the garden terrace. These are wonderfully light and tastefully
furnished with double beds, mirrors, bedside tables with lamps,
wardrobes and share a modern bathroom directly next door with beautiful
large walk in limestone tiled power shower, W.C. and wash basin.
Garden:
A variety of mature trees, including cherries, olive and fig, combine to
create a beautiful enclosed garden with large lawn. There is a spacious,
tiled, fenced-in pool area, a 10.5m X 5.5m pool, with another BBQ by the
pool and plenty of sun loungers. There is an enormous amount of space
around the pool area and garden which must be emphasized as it is
perfect for families with lots of children. There is another large table
on the downstairs terrace which seats 10 people. The house is South-West
facing for sunshine all day long and is surrounded by orchards and
fields ensuring safety and quiet. Floodlights in the pool, under the
shelter and trees around the pool create the perfect evening ambiance.
