The luxury converted farmhouse is set in the idyllic medieval village of Bagnault, overlooking the valley of the River Nortaise, in the rural Deux Sevres. The village has four beautiful 'fountaines' or baths which spring naturally from the river; architecture dating back to the twelfth century, and many tiny 'chemins' and street lanterns. A communal bread oven, is the focal point for the village elders who go there to bake the local speciality; a type of cheese cake; the village is, after all on the Route de Chabichou or Goats Cheese trail!

The French rural tranquillity and 'joie de vivre!', can certainly be found in this truly unspoilt area of France. There is easy access to the Atlantic port and beaches of La Rochelle; Ile de Re, for chic seafood harbour restaurants; cosmopolitan city of Poitiers, for history, Boutiques and a fix for any 'shopoholic' and of course the famous theme park for the moving image, Futurescope; Cognac for sampling something a little stronger; an abundance of Châteaux’s, vineyards and tasting the local Pineau de Charente, and fields of sunflowers which seem to go on forever. Small traditional market towns of a bygone era are also plentiful and within a few minutes drive of the farmhouse; you can visit the traditional French markets and buy wonderful local produce to cook for your evening meal.

Within a short distance there is a lake with a sandy beach which has all water sport facilities; fishing; cycling; swimming; horse riding . The local area has angling on all the rivers, and is perfect for cycling ( bicycles are available to guests); picnicking; walking; bird watching; and golfing at Niort , 15km away.

The two hundred year old property is full of interesting original handcrafted features, with magnificent central fireplaces and log burners; heavily beamed ceilings and lots of French style and character, but with twenty first century comforts and facilities. The house provides five large en-suite bedrooms which can accommodate with ease and flexibility 10 -14 people.

Beginning at the basement, is the all-important wine cave; which is available for you to fill and empty again to your hearts content.
On the ground floor is the entrance hall, with a local information centre, which opens into the 'cooks kitchen' with quality oak units, Mediterranean blue ceramic tiling, professional range gas cooker/wok burner; dishwasher; microwave; American refrigerator/freezer with ice maker; 3 sinks, and sufficient quality crockery glassware and utensils for the whole party. So the cook is not relegated to the kitchen alone, it overlooks a bar/dining area with large fireplace and wood burning fire, comfortable chairs and a bookcase. Through to the large dining room/ lounge area with central water feature, with large dining table/chairs, and a comfortable settee and chairs, through the French windows, you can look out onto the terraced gardens. There is a television (satellite channels available with some English), video, CD and hi-fi system. Also on the ground floor is a bedroom with a king-size leather sleigh bed; a fabulous central open fireplace; two French windows opening out onto a terraced area; en-suite shower room and toilet.

On to the first floor, is a double bedroom with en-suite facilities; shower; toilet. There is a landing area with laundry facilities; washing machine; tumble dryer, ironing facilities and a toilet. An additional large airy bedroom, with a king-size bed and queen size bed; en-suite bathroom with corner bath and over shower. There is an antique writing desk and chair, looking out to the surrounding countryside.

Up the stairs to the third floor is a complete self-contained fully equipped kitchen with gas cooker; refrigerator/freezer and all the crockery and utensils required. A lounge area with television and satellite facilities, video; hi-fi. A bedroom with two single beds; character heavy beams and low windows; velux windows in the ceiling; it is perfect for children. The second bedroom has a double bed and a single bed; character heavy beams; again low windows and velux windows in the ceiling. The  bathroom has a shower and toilet. There are additional portable beds and cots available on request, depending on the requirements of your party.

Set in its own private landscaped grounds, with two carp ponds and water feature; the fabulous pool (9mx5m) and adjacent terraces are perfect for relaxing and provide a superb backdrop for evening meals and outdoor barbeques (two exterior large, covered, BBQ areas) particularly watching the sun go down or when illuminated by night. There is a large variety of garden furniture at your disposal. There is a table tennis table; darts board; bicycles; games; and of course ‘boules’. A video and C.D. library available for your use also.
